Follow these steps to format your drive: Connect and power the drive 2. Open Mac HD on your desktop 3. Open Disk Utility 6. On the left you should see the hard drive listed. Then right click on the drive again and select "create partition" from the menu. Follow the steps in the partition wizard to create a Primary partition. Deleting the partition will cause all data on the drive to be lost. If the partition has become corrupt this may be unavoidable.
HGST is not responsible for lost data. It is highly recommended that data be backed up in multiple locations on multiple drives to minimize data loss. Before I updated from Win 8 to Win 10 my Hitachi Touro gb portable hard drive worked fine to make backup's. It shows in Device Manager and in Backup and Support windows 7 in Control Panel but in the latter there is a red cross against it and 'Back up now' is greyed out. It will not work at all. Is there any way I can get it to work rather than buy a new one? Are you able to see the external drive in This PC? Is the Portable drive assigned Drive letter through Disk Management?
